Christmas dog sweaters might seem like a fun festive idea, but a vet urges owners to avoid putting dogs in costumes as it can lead to itching and discomfort.

According to Sean McCormack, chief veterinarian at Tails.com, cheap materials commonly used to make Christmas outfits could leave our puppies with an allergic reaction. They may look adorable, but our four-legged friends don’t need party clothes to join in the holiday cheer.

“With Christmas Day just around the corner, it can be more tempting than ever to dress up your furry friend and have him pose for a photo. As cute as it sounds on Instagram, many dogs don’t. don’t really like wearing sweaters, while others may be irritated by certain fabrics the clothes are made of, ”Sean warns.

“It’s not just allergic reactions to tissues that can be a problem, rubbing and restricting movement can irritate your dog as well.”

What fabrics can a dog safely wear?

Remember: make sure your dog is not wearing clothes for a long time. If they begin to show signs of distress, remove the outfit immediately.

He adds: “When deciding whether or not to dress your pooch in a festive sweater, you should always prioritize his happiness and well-being. Some dogs find wearing any kind of additional clothing extremely uncomfortable and stressful, and the feeling of embarrassment can be difficult to recognize. “
