Petco adds CLIF PET, Earth Animal products to its roster

SAN DIEGO — Petco Health and Wellness Company announced June 28 an expansion of its product offerings to include dog treats and chews from pet companies CLIF PET™, by Clif Bar and Company, and Earth Animal®. Select products from both companies will now be available through Petco as part of the retailer’s commitment to supporting innovative, environmentally friendly pet foods and treats.

CLIF PET’s new Plant Based Jerky treats and Earth Animal’s No-Hide® Chews will be available throughout the United States at various Petco retail locations, as well as online via Petco.com.

“As an industry leader when it comes to pet nutrition and overall pet health and wellness, we’re thrilled to continue expanding Petco’s curated dog treats assortment with new offerings from CLIF® and Earth Animal,” said Amy College, chief merchandising officer, Petco . “The $8 billion dog treat and chew market is growing at an even faster rate than dog food, with more than 75% of pet parents feeding treats and chews to their dogs. Pet parents are increasingly looking for wholesome, eco-friendly and tasty treat options for rewarding desired behaviors and promoting mental stimulation, during a time when we’re even more eager to treat our pets and feel closer to them than ever before.”

Petco is the exclusive retail partner for Clif Bar’s new pet products. The company’s Plant Based Jerky treats are available in three recipes — Sweet Potato and Blueberry, Pumpkin and Apple, and Butternut Squash and Cranberry — each formulated with plant-based proteins and seven simple, digestible ingredients. The treats are available in 5-oz and 12-oz bags, ranging from $8.99 to $16.99. For a limited time, Petco will also sell Clif Bar products alongside CLIF PET’s treats.

“When preparing to launch CLIF PET, we knew we wanted to work with a retail partner that shares our values and spirit of innovation,” said Greg Lok, head of Incubator, Clif Bar’s in-house new ventures group. “Petco’s commitment to sustainability and their efforts to prioritize brands that promote wholesome nutrition make this a great fit for us and for pet parents.

“We couldn’t be more excited about expanding the reach of CLIF PET through Petco’s channels so dogs everywhere can enjoy the reward of our nutritious, tasty treats,” Lok added.

As well as carrying CLIF PET’s treats, Petco will also be selling Earth Animal’s No-Hide Chews line. The rawhide alternative chews come in six varieties — chicken, beef, salmon, pork, venison and peanut butter — available in a variety of sizes. No-Hide Chews are formulated with seven ingredients, including sustainably sourced proteins, like peanut butter; humanely raised chicken and pork; wild-caught salmon; humanely raised, grass-fed beef; and free-range, grass-fed venison. With limited ingredients, the chews offer a healthier and more digestible alternative to rawhide, according to Earth Animal.

“We have been so impressed with the work that Petco has done on behalf of their commitment to pet health and wellness and are really excited to be one of their newest partners supporting their Whole Health philosophy,” said Stephie Volo, chief marketing officer of Earth Animal and chairwoman of the Pet Sustainability Coalition. “Petco and Earth Animal have a shared mission around positively impacting and enhancing quality of life for pets, people and the planet.

“Our partnership with Petco allows us to further this mission by making our No-Hide Chews more available to pet parents who are looking for and purchasing innovative and sustainable products for their animals,” Volo added.

Ahead of carrying Earth Animal’s products, Petco removed traditional rawhide products from all its shelves and its e-commerce site back in March 2021 to help promote healthier and more sustainable alternatives.
