Air shows

• Oakland County International Airport’s Open House and Air Show is 9 am-4 pm Aug. 14 at 6500 Highland Road, Waterford Twp. Event features women skydiving team and aerobatic performers at 1:30-3 pm; World War II aircraft and military vehicles on display, parking and admission are free. car shows

• 14th Annual Troy Traffic Jam Classic Car Show is 10 am-3 pm Aug. 7, to benefit the Troy Historic Village features hundreds of cars, great music, and great food at the Columbia Center, 201 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy. Admission to this family-friendly show is free for spectators, www.TroyTrafficJam.com. Day-of registration for classic cars is $25/vehicle (space permitting).

• M1 Concourse to host “M1 Pontiac Power Week”, Aug. 12-20, Road Kill Nights is Aug. 13, Woodward Dream Show is Aug. 19, m1concourse.com.

• Woodward Dream Cruise is Aug. 20, with festivities in metro Detroit communities along Woodward Ave., woodwarddreamcruise.com.

• Corvettes America Charity Corvette Show: 9 am-4:30 pm Aug. 13, Everest Collegiate High School & Academy, 5935 Clarkston Road, Clarkston, participant fees and online registration at americascorvetteclub.org. Spectators: $10 per bus. Proceeds from the silent auction are donated to Clarkston SCAMP.

Charitable activities

• Gleaners Community Food Bank food distribution event is at the Oakland County Farmers Market, 9-11 am Aug. 10, while supplies last, for those in need. Children’s activities

• Nature Careers program sessions to explore jobs that include nature are 10:30 am-12:30 pm Aug. 11 at Red Oaks Nature Center in Madison Heights, and 10:30 am-12:30 pm Aug. 17 at Wint Nature Center in Independence Oaks County Park, Independence Twp. Sessions are suitable for two age groups: Ages 6-9 and ages 10-13, $10/child/session. • Puddle Jumper series is 10:30-11:30 am Aug. 12 at Wint Nature Center in Independence Oaks County Park, 9501 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston, for children ages 3-6 story, nature talk and related activity. Each child will receive a craft kit to take and make at home. The cost is $4/child. Registration with payment required by calling 248-858-0916 weekdays.

• “Camp at the Collection” is Thursdays through Aug. 18, with two sessions, 11 am and 1:30 pm at Somerset Collection, 2800 W Big Beaver Road, Troy. Children’s Theater of Michigan will host the summer series with activities for children ages 4-10, including kitchen activities on Aug. 11 and games on Aug. 18, www.thesomersetcollection.com.

Family activities

• Annual Marshmallow Fly and Fry is 5-8 pm Aug. 9, at Heritage Park, 24915 Farmington Road, Farmington Hills. Hot dogs (cooked or uncooked), s’more kits, and drinks will be available for $1 per item, cash only. Children line up and retrieve marshmallows dropped from the Fire Department ladder truck and then exchange them for a prize. Event features campfire, splash pad and inflatables. Drop times are: 6 pm for 5 years and younger; 6:20 p.m. for 6-8 years; and 6:40 pm for ages 9+, fhgov.com.

Farmers markets/Garden club events

• The Rochester Garden Club to host Rebecca Culley Healy, a naturopathic doctor and owner of Hawthorn and Violet Herbal Apothecary in Fenton, 9:30 am-12:30 pm Aug. 17, at the Calf Barn at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, 1005 Van Hoosen Road, Rochester Hills, $20 per person, features recipes and samples, adv. • The Birmingham Farmers Market 20th season celebration is 9 am-2 pm Aug. 7, a special ceremony at 10 am with remarks from local elected officials and community members including City of Birmingham Mayor. Music by Fox and the Fiddle and children’s activities, shop local produce, plants, artisan baked goods, fresh foods and more from over 45 vendors and food trucks. The market is open 9 am-2 pm Sundays, May 1 to Oct. 30.

Fundraisers

• JARC Ice Cream Social Fundraiser is 3-8 pm Aug. 11, with activities from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Dairy Queen: 1599 Union Lake Road, Commerce Township. Bloomfield Hills non-profit JARC is hosting, all are welcome. A portion of the proceeds go to benefit JARC.
