Christmas Day is a special time, when families come together to give gifts, eat great food, and generally enjoy the company of others.

No part of Christmas Day sums it up better than Christmas dinner. The whole family gathered around a table, eating turkey, drinking wine and pulling crackers while Shakin ‘Stevens plays in the background.

To start the list, here’s Joanne’s story about when her oven caught fire while making Christmas dinner.

She said: “Two Christmases ago my oven caught fire and it was a disaster!

“It went in the trash, but we still spent the day laughing! “

And from a flamboyant oven, we move on to good old-fashioned blunders.

Lauren said, “When my Nan fell backwards in her chair at the table and pulled on the tablecloth that poured all of our glasses of Prosecco all over our dinners.

“We weren’t even finished eating. Bless poor old darling!”

Cat said: “I took everyone’s dinner to the dining room and then went back to get mine.

“I dropped it on the floor on the way back, completely emptied haha!”

At least Cat managed to cook the food, unlike many of you who have complained that your furry friends grabbed the food before it was even cooked.

Denise said, “I set the meat to cool and our ugly puppy pinched it off the counter and started eating it after dragging it across the floor.”

A number of you have blamed alcohol for your Christmas dinner disasters, including Janet.

She said: “I got drunk too soon, took the gammon out of the oven and it rolled on the floor to the open fridge.

“An entire tray of eggs collapsed one by one as I was getting hysterical just looking at them.”

While Janet might have been happy to eat gammon on Christmas, some consider eating anything other than turkey a Christmas sin.

Bronwen said: “One year I was told on Christmas Day that we only had pork to eat… NO TURKEY!

“It was a scandal, to me it’s all about the big bird… I’ve never trusted another Christmas dinner since, so I cook it myself.”

Claire had a similar experience saying, “I had lamb that Mom kept in the freezer for over a year.

“Not eaten lamb since.”

And lastly, watch how many drinks you have before making dinner, or you might end up with a burger and fries like Norman.

He said: “When Gail had one of several on Christmas Eve and I had to take the boys to McDonalds for Christmas dinner.”

Not the most traditional!
